The Southern Steak and Oyster House

You're going to love The Southern!  You need to make reservations and request a booth.  The booths offer a lot more privacy, otherwise you're sitting in the middle of the restaurant with all the hubbub.

Which is exactly where we were!  But I've had a booth too and it's awesome.

The Southern has a most impressive bar and wine cellar.

We opted for Sangria!  Fabulous!

My girlfriend and I split this amazing salad.  It's an iceberg wedge with fried green tomatoes, crispy fried black eyed peas, bacon lardons and bleu cheese dressing, need I say more?  Scrum!

Ashley and I!

This is the grilled prime sirloin with green peppercorn aioli and french fries.

Yum.

Couldn't even eat it all!  Which made my hubby very happy when I brought him my leftovers.

The Southern is the epitome of all things southern, from their atmosphere, food, drinks, even their employee dress code (which I love!).  You won't be disappointed.

Three Trends You Don't Think You Can Pull Off (Newsflash: You Can!)

1. Bangs.

I have some pretty fabulous bangs. I can't be modest about it. They are cute, playful, and frame my face really well.

I have heard too many times "Oh I just WISH I could pull off bangs!" My response is always "YOU CAN!" Every. Single. Time.

I'm not just being nice. Believe me. If I didn't think you could pull off bangs I'd say "Yeah, but you really ROCK that side part!"

There is a style of bangs for EVERY face shape. If you don't know what it is, ask your hair stylist. Or Google. Or your super fashionable friends. Your resources are limitless, and it is seriously the cheapest and easiest way to update your look! (Not to mention knock a few years off your actual age!)

P.S.- Please have a professional cut your bangs. If you have never cut your bangs before, but are positive you think you can do it....you cannot do it. If you think you *might* be able to cut your bangs...you cannot do it. Seriously. Leave it to the professionals.

2. Colored Pants
I'm not saying everyone can pull off neon green skinny jeans. Those pants should only be worn by your resident middle-schooler.

What I AM saying, is that a pair of soft salmon pants would really spruce up that white t-shirt you normally wear with those jeans from 1996. (Seriously, get rid of those jeans already.)

Think pastel colors, or jewel-tones. Stay away from anything that might give someone a seizure if they look at you.

I promise, no matter what your age, a nice fitting pair of colored pants will make you look ultra trendy!

3. Sparkles

Again, the things that a 13 year old can get away with wearing is enough to make you sick, right? They could wear hot pink skinny jeans, a neon green sequin tank top, and eye shadow that drips glitter and STILL look cute.

We, as adults, should never. Ever. Ever. Do that. (Are you listening, Nicki Minaj?)

What is acceptable, however, are bits and pieces of the crazy teenaged look, in low doses.

Now, as women, we should shine. We should sparkle. And guess what? We can!

The key to acceptable sparkle is to pick one singular item that shines and go with it. (Except for pants. Please don't wear glitter pants.)

Maybe you have a pretty top that has some shimmer. Or some fun accessories that really command attention from passers-by. You can and SHOULD wear those things! Just remember to pick one. Do not wear all of the sparkle at once.

Of course, the real key here is to wear these things with confidence. A confident woman is a beautiful woman. And you, my lady friends, have every reason in the world to be confident.

Lockeland Table is an absolute gem located in east Nashville.

You will love it!  Make reservations and prepare to thoroughly enjoy yourself!

My Mom, sis, and I came on a Friday night.

I know, right?  Yes, that's my Mom!  Everyone thinks we're sisters.

Me and my sistah.

This salad is divine.  And that crispy fried goat cheese... absolutely scrum!

You can be seated at the Chef's Bar which has a great view of their oven where they make the best wood fired pizza.  Holy moly!  It's so good you'll lick your eyebrows.

I've been here once before and on that visit I had a steak.  It was fabulous!

For dessert, we had this yummy little chocolate tart.

As I'm writing this, I'm looking online and I see they've made some changes to their menu.  Looks like it's time go to back!

Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint

Mt Juliet welcomes Martin's BBQ!!

Everyone was so excited Martin's was coming to Mt Juliet.
I was like, Martin who?

I had no idea what to expect, but I was not prepared for this deliciousness!!

If you can read these chalkboard signs outside the restaurant, they tell you that sometimes they run out of food because they don't use freezers or microwaves.
And Moon Pies are free to kids 12 and under.

Their menu is great.  I had already been told by several people to try the Redneck Taco so I did.

It's amazing!!  A treat for your tastebuds!  They take a corn fritter, top it with the meat of your choice, add homemade slaw, and then the sauce of your choice.  It's so good, you'll lick your eyebrows!

Yummy ribs.

Pulled chicken.

Give Martin's a try!

Namesake: There's An App For That

I love women's bible studies.  I've been doing them for years and it's where I've learned most of what I know about God and the bible.  In bible study, you make the best friends, you get to know each other better, and you grow in your relationship with God.

I was recently asked to review an app for a bible study called Namesake.  I haven't done this study yet and was excited to see what the app would offer!

I was amazed to find videos within the app!  This went above and beyond my expectations.

But, my most important question, how easy is the workbook to use in the app, and can we answer questions directly in the workbook?

I was delighted to find that you can navigate the entire workbook, by each week, and then by each day of the week.  Super easy.

And to answer a question within the workbook, simply touch the screen and a window pops up allowing you to answer!  I am in love.

To take a note, tap the tools icon, and a window opens for note taking.

It's the same for using a bookmark, or highlighting.

Very cool.

The future of bible studies is looking good!

Capitol Grille Nashville

An icon in Nashville is The Capitol Grille located in The Hermitage Hotel.  Not to be confused with the upscale restaurant chain, Capital Grille.

Politicians, celebrities, and country music greats have been enjoying Capitol Grille since 1910.

Pretty cool, huh?

My Mom, sister, and I had to check this place out.

Very schmancy!  Out server was excellent, not stuffy, very knowledgeable.

Hermitage Hotel has a beef farm in Dickson, TN.  They had several selections on the menu that came from the local farm.

Their chef also uses locally grown produce.

I didn't get a single picture of our dinner, because we always get excited when the meal arrives, and then I forget to take pictures.  Everything was excellent.  Super yummy and amazing.

After dinner, we headed to the ladies room and boy did we get a surprise...

We were invited to take a gander at the men's room!  Turns out it's famous!  A friend of mine even had wedding photos taken in there!

Need to make a call?

Or maybe get a shoe shine?

Enjoy your meal... and don't forget to visit the Men's room!

Jewel Toned Makeover

How adorable is Maddy?

She is absolutely precious and I had so much fun doing her hair!
Last summer we gave her a blonde streak in front.

Before

She came in for a root touch up and I asked her how did she feel about doing something different?
I suggested we color the hair around her face back to her natural color and give her a streak just a little further back than what we had done before.

First, we colored the blonde around her face using Redken Shades EQ 07NB.

Then I applied bleach to the section I wanted and then wrapped it in foil.

I had Maddy sit under the dryer to help the bleach to process.

Looks great!  We shampooed her hair, dryed it, and then applied her next colors.

First, I applied purple hair color by Manic Panic.

Next I did a purple and blue ombre using Pravana Blue.

I love the way this turned out and so did Maddy!
